September 2006

I have been experimenting a little this afternoon with a new look for my blog. I wanted to make it more personal and have a picture of us on the front. I know the photo is low resolution and somewhat grainy and I will try to take some new ones at the next show when we’re all dressed up and clean!

What do you all think? Any better?

Next show, that’s soon by the way. If everything goes according to plan we’ll be doing the autumn South East Arab Horse Group show at Sands Farm on 24 September. Exciting as usual!

Apologies for not posting anything here for the last few weeks. My old computer started to have problems and I had to sort those out, plus I have now bought a brand new computer to help support my new work plans.

I can’t share those plans with you just yet. You’ll have to wait a week or two! Suffice to say that I’m both excited and scared!

While all of that has been going on, it’s been up and down with Shah. He had a relapse about two weeks ago, went completely backwards to his old agressive himself again. It was probably the weather and the change to winter coat. He hates the autumn and winter. Being an Arabian horse I’m not surprised. They were bred to live in the desert and the English weather is not exactly desert like.
Luckily the relapse only lasted for one week. That’s a MAJOR improvement! Just one week of relapse and then I had my new lovely happy horse back again. I was over the moon! It used to be one week of good happy horse and then several weeks of relapse, in the beginning even just a couple of days of happy horse and then weeks of relapse. To me this means that we have passed another milestone. I can now be confident about his emotional well being and I know that he’ll now just go from strength to strength, with only short relapses in between.

Maybe we’re even going to be able to set some higher goals for next year? Being able to compete at the Royal International show at Hickstead is now a definite goal for next year. Another one is to start off novice endurance and see how we get on with that. In the meantime I have continue working hard, and I have to start saving for a little horse lorry. It’s hard to go anywhere without your own transport and hiring a self-drive lorry every time gets expensive. So I’ve finally got the other half to agree to me buying my own lorry. Yippiiee!!! Just have to sell the little car first, and sort out the rest of the house renovations…but then…

If you’re around on Monday evening (4 Sept) you should go to Sue Gardner’s natural horsemanship demo in Upper Beeding. It starts at 7.30pm and I’m sure you’ll enjoy it even if you’re into traditional training methods. She’s bringing her Arab mare Dream.

Natural horsemanhip has really opened my eyes to horse training. I’ve had so many aha-experiences and improved my riding and Shah’s condition immensly. I will blog more about that another day.

Hopefully, once my new work is up and running properly I should have some more time for blogging. I look forward to that!
